The Searching Fish

This past Saturday while I was visiting at The Bridge, something someone prayed moved me. The prayer went something like: “…You desire to live in us…” with the “You” in the prayer refering to God. My mind started to explode as I imagined a God who wanted to dwell in me. The all-powerfull God who created space, time, heaven, earth, and everything in it doesnt ask me to dwell in him. His desire is to live in me; to change me; to transform the fibers of my selfish being. God could easily say: “Come live in me,” I mean, He is God for heavens sake. But He chooses to live in our imperfect, faulted bodies, if we so choose to extend our lives to Him.

At the end of the gathering a story was told of fishing. When we go fishing, we prepare our fishing-rod, bate, hooks, etc., and sit in a boat or on a dock waiting to catch a fish. We do so much in preparation and devote so much time to seeking out the fish but what we don’t realize is that all the while we think we are seeking out the fish, the fish is really seeking us. God is the fish, and as we search for Him we don’t realize that He has been seeking us out all along. I am honored and humbled to know a God who wants to dwell in me; who searches for me.

God, you continually amaze me, surpassing all my thoughts about You. Just when I think that I am begining to understand more and more about You, You shatter what I think I know. You are amazing God.
