The colliding of the two worlds

There seems to be two different worlds in the Christian life. The first world is the one in which we go to church, pray in the mornings before work, read our bibles and go to small group. The second world is the one in which we go to school, work, out to dinner, to the movies, Starbucks, the beach, the hair Salon, the tattoo parlor and the rock concert. For many, these two worlds are seen just as that: two worlds. For those types of people, these worlds are miles apart and are never meant to interact; they are two different worlds which each live out there own purpose.

But for me, — and I know there are many others out there — I don’t see these worlds as separate, in fact, I don’t see two worlds at all. For me, I don’t do the Christian thing on Saturday nights at church, when I pray after work, or when I engage the scriptures, and then mosey throughout the rest of my life waiting till I get to encounter God again. I’m not just a follower of Christ when I go to Aqueous, or when I feed someone who is hungry, or when I walk through my neighborhood and pray. I am a follower of Christ at all times, in every space, and in every context. The two worlds collided and are morphed into one for me. The activities or things that I do, do not define me or make me into a Christian; but yet, it is how I live in every moment that defines me as a follower of Christ. These “christian activities” aren’t the Christian life as many people treat them, but they sustain my journey of faith.

“The heart of discipleship lies in commitment and worship, not reflection and theory. The Spirit of Jesus provides a way for us to live on the surface and out of the depths at the same time. On the surface we can think, dialogue, plan, and be fully present to the demands of the daily routine. Simultaneously and deeply within, we can be in prayer, adoration, thanksgiving, and attentiveness to the Spirit.” Brennan Manning

Well I just see the architect comming out in you. An architect that is going to follow the author of life. I thank him that you have got a hold of him and a heart for the ignored and overlooked. I hope in the next couple of days that we can get together and talk about this mission movement that has been waiting for us to discover and tap into. mark

Heck ya! That is a really important thought! Many times in my life I have felt like I had to pick God or _____(being anything other that God). But the cool thing about God is he wants to use ________. For example the disiples were fishers but he made them into fishers of men. He didn’t make them to be something they weren’t. God wants your ______ he doesn’t want you to tell him it doesn’t exsist or pertend your someone your not. God might tweak things sometimes but you’ll find you’re still “fishing”. I want to give Jesus who I really am not my fake cheese attempts to religiously please him through rituals that means nothing to me or Him. I sick of being transformed by religous culture intead of the really deal, Jesus Christ. Thanks for the intriguing thought Ryan!
