I’m constantly amazed at how much the “American dream” and the “American way” runs counter to a life with Christ. I am musing over Ecclesiastes:
“If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. And on a cold night, two under the same blanket can gain warmth from each other. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.” - 4:10-12
How much does the “American way” teach us that in order to get to the top (it assumes first that “getting to the top” is the main goal) we have to make it happen on our own, stepping on anyone and anything to get there. The “American way” says nothing of community life, only of individual gains. Community life strongly opposes the “american way” because in a life lived out in community there is no superiority and there is always life altering help with no strings attached.

I tell you that we do everything backwards, our education system is backwards and the church in general is backwords. We have students who are oppressed, sick and think that education is their enemy. Here we are trying to make everything about the standards when we a are suppose to be leading them into huminizination instead we are dehumanizing them. Same with the church today, nothing will ever change unless we stop being so self-centered. The problem is, is that we are just concerend about our safty, wellbeing, comfort,be blessed and ego that we are the frickin problem. We are just getting in the Way instead of being the Way.
