So yes, this is my semi-ocational update of new music that has dated me, held my hand, romanced me, seduced me, made out with me, and won me over most recently. “Why should we care what you are listening to Ryan?” some of you may query. Very good question. You probably shouldnt…but for those of you who enjoy music and are tired of listening to the same ol’ crap they play on MTV or on the radio, you may want to give this music a chance to romance you (All the links are itunes links so that you can listen to them).
Been listening to James Blunt a lot. He is one of my favorite new artist. Hat tip to Mario for giving me the heads up on Sun Kil Moon - a guy and his accoustic guitar with a great folk-indie sound that does a stellar rendition of “ocean breathes salty”. I also have to give Brett some brownie points for tipping me off to Rob Dickinson - former lead singer/song writer for Catherine Wheel (a great indie band from the UK that ceased musical operations about 5 years ago). His song “my name is love” is amazing. Another band that I have fallen for recently is Panic! at the Disco. I am only a little bit ashamed that I like them. They get compared to Fall Out Boy a lot because their singers sound alike. Panic’s sound is teenage-angst-rock mixed with some electronic beats and sounds mixed with a bunch of creativity. I really can’t help but like them. As I meantioned on the “asides” section on my sidebar, Lovedrug is dope. Need I say more? Lastly, some other bands of note that have been getting air play in Ryan’s world: Stars (Electronic/Alternative), Aqualung (Alternative) and Rogue Wave (Indie). Enjoy and let me know if you fall in love with any.

Sweet! I think all of that will keep me busy for the next 2 years! I love expanding my musical repertoire. Belle and Sebastian scored and provided the soundtrack for a film that I saw at the SB Film Festivle this year called In Memory of My Father…and yes…Morrissey is a very handsome fellow…is there something going on between you two that I dont know about Mr. Hacket?
Belle and Sebastian - easily one of my top three favorite bands of all time. Always evolving and still really good. Though I preffer the old line-up with Isobel Cambell. I need to check out that film. The only other film I’ve seen that included a B&S track was the very forgetable “Pumpkin” with Chirstina Ricci.
Thanks for the music, I have really been enjoying James Blunt lately so I’m excited to here the rest of this stuff as well
“Ageless Beauty” by Stars is my pick to click.
B. Hackett
Yes, Rogue Wave. It was my soundtrack for fall of ‘05. My new fav is the Weepies “Say I am You” -give it a try…
Ageless Beauty is a good track. Suzanna, thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely give the Weepies a try…
