Avatars are little icons that you create that act as a type of signature when you comment on blogs and other forums (Click here for the Wikipedia definition of avatars). Gravatar is a Globally Recognized Avatar where when you sign up with gravatar.com, you can upload an icon you create and it will be displayed next to your name everywhere you post on the web, if the website has enabled them (check out the Wikipedia definition of gravatars). I know it sounds kinda weird and complicated (probably because I am doing a horrible job at explaining it), but it really is quite easy and VERY cool.
If you have a blog, click here to find out how you can implement gravatars on your blog so that when people comment, their gravatar will show up on their comment.
If you don’t have a blog and you just comment on others’ blogs, you can create your own gravitar that will show up every time you comment on a blog that has enabled gravitars (aka mine
) Click here to create your own gravitar.
Check out an example of what I am talking about on my example comment. You will see my gravatar in the upper right hand corner of my comment. When you get a gravatar, feel free to use this post to test them out.
