During my “Ethics in Contemporary Society” class on Sunday, we were talking about the ethical implications of the tobacco industry. As we were talking about this the idea of advertising came up and our teacher said something that really grabbed me. This is not an exact quote, but it will be close enough:
“If we look at advertising in the tobacco industry, we must look at advertising in general. Is advertising itself ethical? Advertising, by its very nature, tells us that who we are is not okay.”
