Vox Veritas Live @ SOhO

On 8.26.2006, VV played its first show. This is a video clip of a few songs that we played that night. I am interested in hearing what people thought of our gig. If you were not there, you can watch the video and then give us some feedback. I would mostly like to hear some very humble (diplomatic please) criticisms/room for improvement/ideas on how we can be better. Remember that all my “podcasts” and “videocasts” can be viewed/downloaded/subscribed to at the itunes music store at this link: Go To The RyCast

  1. I loved the show at SOhO, it was excellent and really sounded great. I loved the piano in a couple of the songs and I honestly think it was very well mixed. I look forward to hearing more original songs…

  2. On the closing song, your singing was going a bit sharp on the sustained notes. But learning to relax while maintaining intensity is tricky.

All in all, I’m impressed. Wish I could have been there!

  3. …Trickier still at the END of a set, when you’re tired! When you figure it out, let me know so I can learn. :-)

  4. Thanks for the love Kristin! Thanks to you as well Jon. Well, it wasnt just at the end of the set. I was struggling a bit that night. I wasnt on my “A” game at all. You know that feeling that you get sometimes when you know you just nailed it? Yeah, I didnt get that feeling at all. Oh well, it was our first gig and I am still learning.
For me it is hard to perform. I dont like it at all. I wrestle constantly about what it means to be a performer, and its hard for me to reconcile it with who Jesus is and who I strive to be. Anyone’s thoughts on being a performer in the Kingdom of God would be great.

  5. I don’t see performance as something opposed to the kingdom. Jon Thatcher who plays bass for delirious was asked, “Which is better, performance or worship?” He replied, “Either is good. Both is better.” Performance is a craft like any other, where you are trying to take people into a new space. When I lead worship, it is a performance, meaning I am using my body to produce not just sounds but also mood and expression.

  6. Hey Ryan,
I had to leave before your set was over… sorry. I thought the mix was a bit sloppy - at times the vocals were difficult to make out, at times, things were a little mushy… and the texture of the music suffered some because of that. It came out a bit more dense than I think it really is and a bit monochromatic in terms of the textures. Emphasize the changes in texture more like when you use acoustic guitar or piano vs. the heavy guitar based sounds. All in all though, I thought it was a great first gig for you guys.
